DAY OF THE DEAD CELEBRATION IN MEXICO

I attended the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) celebration in Melaque last night. This event is different from the Halloween celebrations in the United States which are usually about candy or costume parties. In Mexico this day is indeed a celebration too. However, all the people celebrate, honor, and pray for family and friends that have passed away. On this day you will see private altars honoring the deceased and it's also a custom to visit the grave site of their loved ones and share gifts.

I find it refreshing to see a culture that can share a day every year to honor the life of those who have died. So I take pleasure in learning another lesson about humanity while taking photos of this wonderful event.

Seas the day,
Robert Hansen
